DUDLEY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team fell 3-2 at Nichols in the 2019 season-opener Friday afternoon.
The Lions move to 0-1-0 on the year with the result while the Bison improve to 1-0-0 overall.
The home side snagged an early 1-0 edge with a score in the third minute of action. Evan Lemoine fired a left-footed shot into the lower left corner of the cage for his first tally of the season off of a feed by Ryan Mangan.
The visitors equalized in the 12th minute to pull even at 1-1. Charlie Swann (London, England) bagged his first goal in a Lions' uniform, heading home a floated cross off the foot of Kirby Georgeon (Brockton, Mass.).
Nichols reclaimed a one-goal advantage in the 15th minute, 2-1. Lemoine netted his second marker of the match with a left-footed effort from the top of the box as Ali Ali provided the assist.
The Bison tacked on their third score of the opening half in the 16th minute to widen the gap to 3-1. Ali finished off a breakaway attempt for his first goal of the year after a slotted pass by Mangan.
The Lions trailed 3-1 at the halftime break while the home team held a 10-6 advantage in first-half shots.
Eastern Nazarene cut the deficit to 3-2 in the 75th minute as Swann tallied his second goal of the day with an unassisted effort.
The visitors finished the contest with 12 shots while Nichols registered 20 attempts in the game.
Tyler Ferreira (Berkley, Mass.) finished with five saves in his second collegiate start between the pipes. Didac Gomes Castellvi (Tarragona, Spain) manned the net in the second half and recorded three saves.
