NORTH QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision Worcester State Saturday evening at Creedon Field in the first-ever meeting between the two sides.
The Lions dip to 0-2-0 on the season while the Lancers improve to 1-1-0 overall.
The home team jumped ahead 1-0 in the eighth minute as Cyprian Okwaro (Randolph, Mass.) bagged his first collegiate goal. The rookie picked off a pass before slipping a shot past the on-rushing goalkeeper.
Eastern Nazarene fired nine shots in the first half while Worcester State registered seven attempts.
The Lancers pulled even in the 59th minute as Gift Kalombo's right-footed volley snuck inside the near post for his first tally of the season.
The visitors nabbed a 2-1 edge with a strike in the 79th minute. Bryan Brasil rifled in a direct free kick from just outside the box for his first goal of the year.
The Lions finished with 13 shots and six corner kicks earned. Worcester State posted 14 shots on the night and seven corner kicks.
Rookie Florian Resch (St. Stefan, Austria) stopped four shots in net for the hosts.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene visits Regis (Mass.) September 5 for a non-league tilt.
