Men’s Soccer Handed 4-0 Loss on Homecoming by Western New England
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team suffered a 4-0 setback to Western New England Saturday afternoon at Bradley Field during Homecoming.
The Lions drop to 0-13-0 on the year and 0-6-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the loss. The Golden Bears improve to 9-4-1 overall and 4-1-1 in league play with the win.
The guests raced out to a 2-0 lead at less than 10 minutes into the match.
Troy Remillard bagged his NCAA-leading 20th goal of the season in the third minute off of a feed by Logan Pingree to give Western New England an early 1-0 edge.
The Golden Bears tacked on their second goal of the game in the eighth minute as Nick Liccardi notched his third marker of the fall after Troy Remillard dished his fourth assist.
Eastern Nazarene fired three shots in the opening stanza while Western New England constructed six chances.
The visitors added a tally in the 53rd minute as Liccardi laced his fourth goal of the season in the back of the cage to stretch their lead to 3-0. Chris Manousos provided the assist on Liccardi's second strike of the day.
The Golden Bears widened the gap to 4-0 in the 66th minute. Troy Remillard buried his 21st goal of the season and second of the contest with a right-footed laser. Corey Brown and Mike Doyle both picked up assists on the tally.
The Lions had an opportunity to get on the board but a penalty shot in the 75th minute by Connor Hudson-Bryant (Weymouth, Mass.) was gloved away by the goalkeeper to keep Western New England's shutout intact.
Eastern Nazarene concluded the contest with four shots on the afternoon, led by Hudson-Bryant with two. Western New England produced 15 shots and six corner kicks.
Sophomore Victor Mendoza (Cathedral, Calif.) hauled in one save in his seventh start of the year.
