QUINCY, Mass.- Hosting its second annual "Night of Nets" game to raise awareness for malaria, the Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team endured a 2-0 loss to Emerson Monday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The host Lions sink to 0-8-0 on the year with the result while the visiting Lions improve to 4-6-1 overall.
The two squads battled to a scoreless opening half. The home side fired two shots on goal in the first frame while the guests registered four attempts.
Emerson snagged a late goal to push ahead 1-0 in the 80th minute. Joao Vieira picked up his first tally of the year with a long-range effort that nestled inside the left post.
Emerson added a score in the 83rd minute to stretch its advantage to 2-0 as Gavin Faucette converted a penalty kick to notch his sixth goal of the season.
Eastern Nazarene finished with six shots on the night, led by Anthony Monteiro (Stoughton, Mass.) with two attempts. Emerson generated 11 shots in the contest and held a 7-3 edge in corner kicks earned.
Sophomore netminder Victor Mendoza (Cathedral, Calif.) made a pair of saves in his fourth start of the fall.
