Eddings Bags Four Goals as Men’s Soccer Cruises to 7-0 Win Over Wheelock
QUINCY, Mass.- Senior David Eddings (Endicott, N.Y.) tallied four goals to power the Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team to a convincing 7-0 victory over Wheelock Tuesday evening at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Lions elevate to 2-1-0 on the season while the Wildcats dip to 0-3-0 overall.
The home team opened the scoring less than three minutes into the match. Eddings headed home his first goal of the season off of a cross by Nabil Chamoun (Walpole, Mass.).
Eastern Nazarene doubled its advantage to 2-0 in the fourth minute as Eddings buried his second tally of the night. Jannon Smith (Huntington, N.Y.) picked up his first collegiate assist on Eddings' score.
The Lions tacked on their third goal of the game in the 11th minute to widen the gap to 3-0. Ian Carson (San Antonio, Texas) notched his first career marker, knocking in a corner kick delivery by Joao Costa (Framingham, Mass.).
The hosts extended the margin to four in the 25th minute of the contest. Seth Weaver (Dillsburg, Pa.) slid a pass across the face of the cage for Costa to poke into a wide-open goal for his first of the year.
Eastern Nazarene held an overwhelming 17-1 advantage in first-half shots.
The Lions added a goal in the 47th minute as Eddings completed the hat trick with his third tally of the contest.
The home side stretched its lead to 6-0 on Costa's second marker of the evening. Eddings sprung Costa in on goal alone and the sophomore poked the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper.
Eastern Nazarene chalked up its seventh goal of the match as Eddings found the back of the net for the fourth time. Kevin Oquendo (East Boston, Mass.) earned his first assist of the season on the final tally of the contest.
The Lions finished with 29 shots while Wheelock mustered five in the game.
Senior Jameson MacFarland (Jacksonville, Fla.) started between the pipes for the hosts and made one save in 45 minutes of action. Rookie Victor Mendoza (Cathedral, Calif.) logged 45 minutes of relief action in his collegiate debut and stopping three shots.
