Men’s Soccer Absorbs 3-1 Loss at Gordon
WENHAM, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision at Gordon Wednesday evening while battling steady rain and wind gusts.
The Lions sink to 5-10-1 on the season and 1-5-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the result. The Fighting Scots improve to 13-3-0 overall and 6-1-0 in league action with their third straight victory.
The visitors raced out to a 1-0 lead with a score less than three minutes into the match. Senior Scott Hansen (Middletown Springs, Vt.) tallied his sixth goal of the year to give Eastern Nazarene an early lead.
Gordon responded with an equalizer in the 18th minute to pull even 1-1. Caleb Cole scored his ninth goal of the fall off of an assist from Aaron Terjanian.
Both squads fired eight shots in the first half and each team found the back of the net once.
The Fighting Scots netted the go-ahead goal in the 57th minute as Cole notched his second marker of the game. Evan Crocker picked up an assist on Cole's 10th tally of the year.
The hosts tacked on an insurance goal in the 59th minute to push the margin to 3-1. Cole completed the hat trick with his 11th strike of the season as Kristian Kasiguran provided the assist.
The Lions concluded the game with 10 shots and five shots on goal. Gordon produced 13 shots on the night with eight on target.
Eastern Nazarene held a slight 7-6 edge in corner kicks earned in the match.
Junior David Eddings (Endicott, N.Y.) was credited with four saves between the pipes in his first collegiate appearance in goal for the Lions.
Josh Spoonhour stopped four shots in 81 minutes of play for the Fighting Scots. Bruce Gerberich manned the net for the final nine minutes of the game and went untested.
