BOSTON, Mass.- In a battle of the Lions, the Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 overtime decision at Emerson Wednesday.
The visiting Lions fell to 5-9-0 on the year with the result while the home Lions improve to 4-6-3 overall.
Neither side found the back of the net in the first frame as the score remained 0-0 at intermission.
Eastern Nazarene registered three first-half shots while Emerson fired four. The visitors earned all three corner kicks awarded in the opening period.
Eastern Nazarene grabbed a one-goal advantage in the 57th minute. Senior Scott Hansen (Middletown Springs, Vt.) pounced on a loose ball inside the penalty box and buried his fifth score of the season.
A late push by Emerson produced an 89th-minute equalizer as Evan Eubanks tallied his fourth goal of the year off of an assist from Matt Zani.
The hosts netted the game-winner just 17 seconds into the first overtime session. Dan Knight poked in a rebound for his first marker of the fall to propel Emerson to the victory.
Jake Johnson (Mount Bethel, Pa.) stopped seven shots in net for Eastern Nazarene on the night.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene returns home to face Roger Williams October 18 on Homecoming weekend.
