NEW LONDON, Conn.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team fell on the road at Mitchell 2-1 Wednesday afternoon.
The Lions drop to 5-7-0 on the season with the loss while the Mariners improve to 5-6-1 overall with the win.
Eastern Nazarene attempted five shots while Mitchell registered seven in a scoreless first half of action.
Mitchell tallied the game's opening score in the 49th minute to take a 1-0 advantage. Taylor Surette converted a penalty kick for his second goal of the year and first score from the spot.
Eastern Nazarene responded with a goal in the 59th minute to level the match at 1-1 as Andrew Nelson (Burtonsville, Md.) netted his team-leading sixth marker of the season. Jacob Mason (Southport, England) slotted a pass to Nelson on the right side of the penalty area and the rookie fired the ball into the lower left corner of the cage.
The Lions nearly picked up their second goal of the game in the 80th minute but Josh Henry's (Lowell, Mass.) effort caromed off of the crossbar.
The Mariners regained the lead in the 85th minute as Frank Williams scored off of a direct free kick from 25 yards out for his fifth tally of the fall to put the hosts ahead 2-1.
Both squads finished the match with 15 total shots while the home team held a 10-6 edge in shots on goal.
Jake Johnson (Mount Bethel, Pa.) made seven saves in goal for the visitors on the day. Ramazan Sinani stopped five shots between the posts for Mitchell.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene returns home to take on Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Curry October 11.
