QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team endured a 1-0 loss to the University of New England in double overtime Saturday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Lions move to 4-5-0 on the year and 0-3-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Nor'easters improve to 4-3-1 overall and 1-2-0 in league action with the win.
Neither side was able to find the back of the net in the first frame as the score remained deadlocked at 0-0 at halftime.
The University of New England recorded five first-half shots while the home team tried four.
At the conclusion of regulation, the match was still even at 0-0 as Eastern Nazarene owned a 14-10 advantage in shots.
The Nor'easters scored the game-winning goal in the 107th minute of the contest. Matthew Christie slotted a pass to Tyler Garnick unmarked at the top of the penalty area. Garnick dribbled in on goal before firing the ball into the back of the cage for his second of the season.
The Lions finished the game with 17 total shots while the guests attempted 16. Eastern Nazarene owned an 8-3 margin in corner kicks earned on the day.
Jake Johnson (Mount Bethel, Pa.) made three saves between the posts for the Lions. Aidan McParland stopped eight shots in goal for the University of New England.
Andrew Nelson (Burtonsville, Md.) paced Eastern Nazarene with four shots in the contest, including three on frame.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene hits the road for a non-league tilt at Regis October 1.
