Men’s Soccer Breezes by Becker, 6-1
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene men's soccer team rolled past Becker, 6-1, in a non-conference matchup at Veterans Memorial Stadium Tuesday evening.
The Lions improve to 4-2-0 on the fall with the victory. The Hawks flutter to 0-7-0 overall with the loss.
The home team jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute, benefitting from an own goal. Jacob Mason (Southport, England) swung a cross into the box from the right wing, resulting in the ball deflecting off of a defender and winding up in the back of the net.
Eastern Nazarene doubled its advantage to 2-0 in the 16th minute. After Andrew Nelson's (Burtonsville, Md.) initial shot on goal was saved, senior Josh Henry (Lowell, Mass.) pounced on the loose ball and knocked it into the cage for his first tally of the season.
The Lions notched their third score of the half in the 26th minute to extend the lead to 3-0. Scott Hansen (Middletown Springs, Vt.) buried his second goal of the fall on a breakaway. Mason earned his first assist of the year on Hansen's tally.
Eastern Nazarene boasted a 3-0 lead at the halftime intermission. The hosts generated 10 shots in the opening stanza while the Hawks registered four.
The Lions added a score in the 52nd minute to widen the gap to 4-0 as Mason converted a penalty kick for his third marker of the season.
The home side tacked on its fifth goal of the contest in the 60th minute as Jermaine Hibbert (Bridgeport, Conn.) deposited his first score of the fall off of a feed by Hansen.
Becker pulled a goal back in the 83rd minute as Cody Lavallee headed in his second tally of the season off of a free kick delivery by Jonathan Keefe.
Eastern Nazarene capped off the scoring with just 12 seconds on the clock. David Eddings (Endicott, N.Y.) picked up his third goal of the season after a corner kick service by Pacifique Jabiro (Portland, Maine).
The Lions finished the contest with 15 shots while the Hawks attempted eight on the evening.
Jake Johnson (Mount Bethel, Pa.) started the match between the pipes and stopped all three shots he faced. Jameson MacFarland (Jacksonville, Fla.) made his second appearance of the fall in goal for Eastern Nazarene and made a pair of saves in 36 minutes of action.
Looking ahead, the Lions return to conference action with an away match at Salve Regina September 20.
