NEWBURGH, N.Y.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's lacrosse team dropped a 21-4 decision at Mount St. Mary Thursday evening.
The Lions slide to 0-5 on the year with the result while the Knights improve to 5-2 overall.
Jamar Griggs (Stamford, Conn.) netted three goals and Andrew James (Hyannis, Mass.) tallied one goal. Devano Clarke (Lucea, Jamaica) and Matt Cawthorne (Norwell, Mass.) each dished out one assist on the night. Jimmy Keuther (Marshfield, Mass.) scooped up a team-high seven ground balls while Kellen Lee (Henderson, Nev.) added four ground balls.
The home team raced out to a 7-0 lead before Griggs scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season with less than five minutes remaining in the first frame.
Mount St. Mary owned a 10-1 advantage after one quarter of action.
The Knights chalked up six consecutive goals in the second period to widen the margin to 16-1. James notched his first collegiate goal in the final seconds of the quarter to cut the halftime deficit to 16-2.
Griggs picked up his second tally of the game with 11:40 left to play in the third frame and Eastern Nazarene limited the hosts to two scores in the period.
Mount St. Mary extended its lead to 21-3 with three goals in the fourth. Griggs capped off the scoring with his third marker of the contest in the final minute of regulation.
In the cage, Ryan Almeida (Pompton Lakes, N.J.) finished with 11 saves in his fifth start and Walter Stockwell (Hyde Park, Mass.) made his second relief appearance of the spring.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene will face Mount Vernon Nazarene March 26 at Lehigh University.
