Men’s Golf Finishes Fourth at NECC Championships; Waldroop Collects All-NECC Accolades
WEST BOYLSTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's golf team concluded the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championships in fourth place Sunday at Wachusett Country Club.
The Lions finished ahead of Dean with a combined score of 685 while Elms overtook Mitchell for second place. Springfield captured its first NECC Championship since 2012 with a two-round team score of 615.
Jacob Waldroop (Newland, N.C.) fired a 76 to post a 156 for the weekend and earn All-New England Collegiate Conference honors as he clinched third place in the individual standings. Waldroop's mark of 76 is his lowest round of the season. He was the only player in the tournament to card an eagle as his second shot on the par 4 17th hole wound up in the cup from 118 yards.
Michael Dietz (North Charleston, S.C.) shot a 78 on the day to finish with a two-day score of 158.
Senior Sam Danis (Uxbridge, Mass.) carded a 91 for the second-straight round to conclude the weekend with total score of 182. Danis was named to the NECC All-Sportsmanship Team at the conclusion of the event.
Senior Connor Simpson (Haverhill, Mass.) recorded a 90 on day two to finish with a total of 188 for the tournament.
Springfield's Jake Raichle outdueled teammate Mike Strong and overcame a one-shot deficit heading into the day to finish atop the leaderboard with a 148.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene will compete at the Emmanuel Invitational at South Shore Country Club in Hingham, Massachusetts October 4.
