Men’s Basketball Sweeps NECC Weekly Awards
MANSFIELD, Mass.- Senior Garrett Crandell (Bristol, Tenn.) and freshman Will Zarges (Quincy, Mass.) of the Eastern Nazarene College men's basketball team have each collected New England Collegiate Conference weekly accolades, announced the league office Monday.
Crandell picked up his second NECC Player of the Week nod of the season while Zarges was tabbed the NECC Rookie of the Week for the first time.
The duo helped the Lions post a pair of victories to open conference play and improve to 6-8 overall.
Crandell averaged 24.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per contest in the two-game span. In Eastern Nazarene's 78-64 win over Becker, he netted 26 points and grabbed eight boards. Crandell capped off the week with 23 points, five rebounds and three assists as the Lions edged Elms 76-75. The senior shot 61.3% from the floor, 62.5% from three-point range, and 85.7% from the charity stripe on the week.
Zarges poured in a career-high 10 points in Eastern Nazarene's win over Elms. The rookie connected on 4-of-5 from the field and converted 2-of-3 free throw attempts while also adding one rebound.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene continues conference competition on the road at Dean January 15.
