Men’s Basketball Overpowers Northern Vermont-Lyndon, 114-90
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's basketball team defeated Northern Vermont-Lyndon in a high-scoring affair, 114-90, Wednesday evening at the Lahue Physical Education Center.
The Lions improve to 3-5 on the season with the victory while the Hornets fall to 3-4 overall.
Luke Dagley (Weymouth, Mass.) poured in a game-high 17 points off the bench, splashing 5-of-5 three-point attempts. Josh Rice (Hanson, Mass.) tallied 15 points and grabbed five boards. Garrett Crandell (Bristol, Tenn.) and Jacob Waldroop (Newland, N.C.) both chipped in with 13 points. David Lopez (Miami, Fla.) finished with 11 points while Levi Grady-White (Springfield, Mass.) added 10 points.
The hosts constructed a seven-point lead five minutes into the contest with eight-straight points, 17-10.
The visitors narrowed the gap to four, 17-13, with 13:17 left to play in the opening period on a layup by Kyle Cary.
Eastern Nazarene pushed its advantage to nine points with 12:43 to go in the half on five consecutive points by Ozzy Traill III (Valley Stream, N.Y.), 22-13.
Northern Vermont-Lyndon pulled to within three, 30-27, with eight minutes left to play in the first frame as Peyton Olsen capped off a three-point play with a free throw.
The Lions responded with 10 unanswered points to stretch the margin to 40-27 with 5:37 on the clock.
The home side touted a 10-point lead at the halftime break as Waldroop banked in a layup just before the horn, 49-39.
Eastern Nazarene shot 43.6% from the floor and 33.3% from beyond the arc in the first half. Northern Vermont-Lyndon posted a field-goal percentage of 46.4% in the opening frame while connecting on 4-of-15 from three-point range.
Lopez poured in a team-high 11 points and grabbed six boards while Waldroop netted nine points.
The Lions reclaimed a double-digit lead early in the second stanza on a layup by Waldroop, 51-40.
After the Hornets trimmed the deficit to seven, 53-46, Eastern Nazarene extended its advantage to 21 as Crandell dropped in a fast-break layup with 13:35 remaining in regulation.
The hosts eclipsed the century mark with 5:39 on the clock as Dagley canned a corner trey to push the advantage to 100-74.
Eastern Nazarene outscored Northern Vermont-Lyndon 65-51 in the second half to lock up its third victory of the year.
The Lions concluded the contest with a season-high field-goal percentage of 54.2% while draining 12-of-23 from behind the arc. The Hornets shot 47.4% from the floor and 33.3% from downtown on the night.
Damon Denteh paced the visitors with 12 points while Peyton Olsen registered 11 points off the bench.
