Men’s Basketball Drops 71-54 Decision at Wentworth
BOSTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's basketball team suffered a 71-54 setback at Wentworth Saturday afternoon at Tansey Gymnasium.
The Lions fall to 3-3 on the season and 0-2 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the loss. The Leopards improve to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in league action with the win.
Noah Cheney (Bend, Ore.) paced the visitors with 13 points while also adding three assists, two boards, and a pair of steals. Trey'von Davis (Moore, S.C.) tallied 10 points and grabbed five rebounds. David Lopez (Miami, Fla.) chipped in with nine points off the bench while Jacob Waldroop (Newland, N.C.) and Brenndan Rogers (Hanson, Mass.) both netted eight points.
The hosts constructed an early seven-point lead as Jason Ganley tossed in a layup with 13:51 left to play in the first half, 13-6.
Wentworth widened the gap to 20-8 with 11:11 remaining in the opening frame on a three-pointer by Colin Mulvaney.
Eastern Nazarene responded with a trey by Lopez to cut the deficit to 20-11 with just under 11 minutes to go in the first period.
The Leopards expanded their advantage to 20 points with 2:33 on the clock as Sam Knollmeyer converted two free throws, 34-14.
The Lions trailed 38-20 at the halftime after shooting just 29.2% from the field and 25% from three-point land in the first 20 minutes.
The visitors narrowed the gap to 40-29 on a layup by Cheney with 16:23 left to play in the contest.
Wentworth stretched its lead to 61-40 with 8:11 remaining in regulation as Stephen Azums banked in a layup.
The home team maintained its double-digit advantage throughout the remainder of the game to post its second-straight conference victory.
The Lions shot 40.4% from the floor and 26.3% from three-point distance on the day. The Leopards finished with a field-goal percentage of 48.2% while connecting on 11-of-24 attempts from behind the arc.
