Men’s Basketball Drops 83-72 Decision at Daniel Webster
NASHUA, N.H.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's basketball team suffered an 83-72 setback at Daniel Webster Thursday evening.
The Lions move to 1-1 on the year while the Eagles improve to 1-0 overall with the result.
Christian Lynch (Alpharetta, Ga.) scored 15 points and added three assists to lead the visitors. Josh Rice (Hanson, Mass.) drilled four three-pointers to finish with 14 points on the night. Corey Doran (Fairfield, Calif.) registered 10 points and Noah Cheney (Bend, Ore.) chipped in with seven points and a team-best four boards off the bench.
The two teams traded control of the lead in the first five minutes of the contest.
Daniel Webster tallied eight points in a row to build an 18-9 advantage with 11:46 remaining in the first half.
The Eagles extended the gap to 14 as Marquise Caudill converted a pair of free throws with nine minutes left in the opening stanza, 26-12.
Eastern Nazarene trimmed the deficit to five, 28-23, with 6:47 left to play in the half as Rice buried a three-pointer.
Rice dialed up another trey with under four minutes remaining in the first frame to pull the guests level at 33-33.
The Eagles capped off the half with a 9-4 run to hold a 42-37 edge at the break.
The hosts widened the margin to double-digits less than two minutes into the second stanza on a trey by Ray Farmer, 49-39.
The Lions shrunk the gap to two points midway through the period as Lynch tossed in a layup, 57-55.
Daniel Webster reclaimed a double-figure advantage with 6:48 on the clock, 69-58, as Angelo Adon connected on a three-pointer.
The Eagles notched seven of their final nine points of the game from the charity stripe to collect their first win over Eastern Nazarene since January 2011.
The Lions finished with a field-goal percentage of 48.9% while splashing nine treys on 20 attempts. Daniel Webster shot 52.8% from the floor and 52.4% from beyond the arc.
Jared Harrington poured in 15 points to pace the Eagles while Adon contributed with 14 points.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene returns home to square off against MIT November 19.
