Jaylen Owens Tabbed CCC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- Senior guard Jaylen Owens (Johns Creek, Ga.) of the Eastern Nazarene College men's basketball team reeled in his sixth-career Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Week honor, as announced by the league office Monday.
Owens propelled the Lions to a pair of key conference victories last week as he averaged 28.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.5 steals per game.
In Eastern Nazarene's 79-69 win at Salve Regina February 2, Owens led all players with 21 points while registering five rebounds, four steals and three assists in the game.
Owens capped off the week with a career-best 36 points in his 100th collegiate contest as the Lions clipped Wentworth 83-80 on Senior Day February 6. The senior added eight boards, seven assists and three steals against the Leopards.
Owens shot 52.4% from the floor, connecting on 22-of-42 field-goal attempts on the week while also splashing 10 three-pointers.
After pouring in 57 points in the two-game stretch, Owens climbed into eighth on the program's all-time scoring list with 1,681 career points.
A two-time All-Commonwealth Coast Conference first team selection, Owens ranks second in the league with 18.9 points per game and third with 4.4 assists per contests.
With the two critical victories, Eastern Nazarene pulled into a three-way tie for second in the Commonwealth Coast Conference standings at 9-5 and stands at 15-6 overall.
Looking ahead, Owens and the Lions return to the hardwood February 10 as they host Roger Williams at the Lahue Physical Education Center.
