Three-Point Barrage Lifts Men’s Basketball to 73-67 Win at Curry
MILTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's basketball team drained 16 treys en route to defeating Curry College 73-67 on the road Thursday evening.
The Lions improve to 15-2 on the year and 8-2 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the victory. The Colonels drop to 4-14 overall and 2-9 in league action with the loss.
Justin Wagner (Oklahoma City, Okla.) finished with a game-high 21 points as he connected on 7-of-11 attempts from beyond the arc. Jaylen Owens (Johns Creek, Ga.) posted 19 points, seven assists and a pair of steals on the night. Jeremy Wagner (Oklahoma City, Okla.) notched 16 points while collecting four assists and three boards.
Alex Jarman (Portsmouth, R.I.) recorded six points, six rebounds and four blocks while Eric Lynch (Alpharetta, Ga.) scored nine points.
The guests raced out to a 14-4 lead after 5:08 had elapsed as Eric Lynch completed an and-one play at the free throw line.
The home side responded with 10 unanswered points to level the score at 14-14 with 11:29 remaining in the half.
Eastern Nazarene regained a 10-point margin with 1:41 to go on a triple by Jeremy Wagner, 35-25.
Curry cut the Lions' advantage to six as the first half came to a close, 37-31, finishing the half on a 6-2 run.
Eric Lynch, Owens and Jeremy Wagner all paced Eastern Nazarene at intermission with nine points each.
The Lions shot 56% from the field and 50% from outside the arc in the first half. The Colonels were limited to 39.4% shooting and just one three-pointer on four attempts in the opening frame.
The visitors widened the gap to double-digits on a three-pointer by Justin Wagner with 12:36 left to play, 57-47.
Curry pulled to within three with 8:44 on the clock as Matt Russell knocked down a jumper, 59-56.
Eastern Nazarene extended its lead to 69-60 with 2:54 left to play as Jarman hauled in an offensive rebound and dished the ball to Jeremy Wagner for a jumper just inside the arc.
The Colonels narrowed the margin to 69-65 on a layup by James Pina with 1:04 remaining in regulation.
The visitors converted four free throws in the final 10 seconds to seal their eighth conference win of the year.
The Lions shot 52% from the floor on the night and 50% from downtown. The Colonels posted a field-goal percentage of 46.7% to go with 22.2% shooting from behind the perimeter.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene will host the University of New England January 31.
