Owens Collects Third CCC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week Accolade
SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- Sophomore guard Jaylen Owens (Johns Creek, Ga.) of the Eastern Nazarene men's basketball team has been tabbed the Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Week for the third time this season, as announced by the league office Monday.
Owens played a vital role in leading the Lions to three crucial conference victories last week. He averaged 16.7 points per game, 7.7 assists per contest and 3.3 rebounds per game on the week.
Owens registered a season-high 10 assists while adding six points and two boards in a 69-55 win on the road at Roger Williams.
In Eastern Nazarene's 84-81 win at league-leading Nichols, Owens netted 15 points and dished out eight assists while gathering four boards. The victory snapped the Bison's 10-game winning-streak, their first loss since January 4.
He closed out the week with a career-high 29 points, finishing with five three-pointers in the Lions' 71-61 victory over Wentworth. Owens also notched five helpers, four rebounds and a pair of steals in the contest.
The three wins on the week extended Eastern Nazarene's winning-streak to a season-long six games.
Owens currently leads the Lions and ranks fourth in the conference with 17.2 points per game. The sophomore is also tops in the league with 5.6 assists per game.
Eastern Nazarene travels to the Ocean State February 12 for a midweek matchup at Salve Regina. The Lions will be looking to avenge a 78-69 loss to the Seahawks earlier in the season.
Eastern Nazarene boasts a 16-4 overall record and sits in second place in the league standings with a 10-4 mark in conference play.
