Men’s Basketball Rattles Off Fifth-Straight Victory, Edges Regis 63-56
WESTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene men's basketball team posted its fifth-consecutive win Tuesday evening as it claim a 63-56 road-victory at Regis.
The Lions rise to 5-0 on the season with the win while the Pride drops to 1-5 overall.
Jaylen Owens (Johns Creek, Ga.) led Eastern Nazarene with 16 points and three assists on the night. Lequan Gomes (Fairfield, Calif.) chipped in with 11 points and four rebounds off of the bench for the visitors. Christian Lynch (Alpharetta, Ga.) netted nine points while Alex Jarman (Portsmouth, R.I.) and Dylan Saenz (Port Lavaca, Texas) each finished with eight points.
After falling behind by four with 14:15 left to play in the first half, 11-7, the visitors tallied seven unanswered points to claim a 14-7 lead with 11:43 remaining.
Eastern Nazarene stretched its lead to five with nine minutes to go in the first frame as David Eddings (Endicott, N.Y.) setup Saenz for a lay-in, 20-15.
The Lions grabbed a 10-point advantage with 5:50 on the clock in the half on a made layup by Jarman, 28-18.
Regis responded with a 10-2 run to close the half as Eastern Nazarene headed into the intermission break clinging to a 30-28 edge.
Owens and Jarman paced the visitors at the midway point of the game with six points each.
Eastern Nazarene shot 43.3% from the field in the opening frame, including 3-for-13 from three-point distance. The hosts connected on 55.0% of their field-goal attempts and 2-of-6 from beyond the arc in the first half.
The Lions came out firing to start the second half, scoring the first 11 points of the period to increase their lead to 41-28.
The Pride cut the deficit to three with a 10-0 run, capped off by a layup by Ethan Peana to pull the score to 46-43 with 4:44 remaining in the contest.
Eastern Nazarene's final eight points came from the charity stripe in the final minute of play to seal the win.
Eastern Nazarene shot 42.3% from the floor and 22.7 from behind the arc on the night. Regis was held to 37.3% shooting in the game, including 23.1% from long range.
Up next, the Lions open Commonwealth Coast Conference action with a home contest against the University of New England December 4.
