Bio

B.J. Hampton recently completed his second season managing the ENC baseball program after one season as the Director of Sports Information and an assistant baseball coach to Matt Kutt. Following Kutt's retirement at the end of the 2011 season, Hampton was named the new skipper of the young and exciting Lions baseball program.

Hampton, a Daytona Beach, Fla. native, took over the helm of the Lions after one season as the team’s pitching coach and recruiting coordinator.

In 2013, Hampton guided the Lions to a 13-23-1 record and a 4-12 mark in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. Anthony Berroa, Ryan Garza and David Manning all garnered All-Commonwealth Coast Conference honorable mention.

In his first season as head coach, Hampton guided the Lions to seven wins while managing four All-Commonwealth Coast Conference players. Max Pugh was tabbed to the first team while Mike Chiaradio earned second team honors and Steve Doyle and Anthony Berroa were named to the third team.

Prior to his time at ENC, Hampton served as an assistant coach to Jim Peeples at Piedmont College (Demorest, GA), working with pitchers on the varsity squad while serving as the assistant coach to Richard Dombrowsky with the Lions' JV program. In addition to his baseball responsibilities at Piedmont, Hampton served as a Resident Director of Housing as well as the Intramural Coordinator.

“I am excited about this great opportunity at Eastern Nazarene,” Hampton said. “I believe this program has tremendous potential because of the administration’s dedication to improving athletics. The school is located in a prime area of the country which will help greatly with our recruiting process.”

During his time as a member of the Piedmont coaching staff, Hampton also served as the pitching coach for the 17U East Cobb Patriots summer team in 2008.

The Lions 2011 injury-plagued season resulted in a final record of 8-26. In their first season under Hampton, the Lions pitching staff posted its lowest earned run average in five years at 5.86.

Hampton was a four-year member of the Piedmont College baseball team before joining the staff as a coach. As a player, Hampton helped lead the Lions to the school's first NCAA Division III postseason in 2008 when the senior-laden squad posted a 34-14 record, the best in school history. As a relief pitcher, Hampton appeared in a Piedmont-record 72 games and posted a career ERA of 4.52 in 157.2 innings pitched.

Hampton earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from Piedmont before remaining at his alma mater for his graduate work, earning a Master’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Managerial Leadership.

Hampton is married to ENC's head softball coach, Leah. The couple lives in Quincy near campus.
