Baseball Edged by Mitchell in 10 Innings, Game Two Cancelled
TAUNTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College baseball team endured a 4-2 extra-innings loss to Mitchell Saturday afternoon before game two of the doubleheader was cancelled.
The Lions dip to 19-16-1 on the season and finish New England Collegiate Conference play with a 5-5-1 mark. The Mariners improve to 24-10 overall and 7-4 in league action. With the result of game one, Mitchell locks up the No. 2 seed in the NECC Tournament while the Lions secure the No. 3 seed.
Tyler Bean (Wellington, Fla.) collected a game-high three hits a stole a base. Juan Jacobo Lopez (San Diego, Calif.) notched one hit and two RBIs. Anderson Jimenez (Lowell, Mass.) finished with two base knocks while Shane McNamara (Londonderry, N.H.) added one hit, one run scored, and a stolen base.
The home side grabbed a 1-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the second inning. Jacobo Lopez lifted a sacrifice fly to deep right field to knock in McNamara from third base.
The visitors tallied one run in the third to level the contest at 1-1. Bo Yaworski looped a base hit to left-centerfield to plate Justin Adorno.
Eastern Nazarene reclaimed a one-run advantage, 2-1, with a run in the sixth. Jacobo Lopez roped a single down the left field line to drive in George Calderon Jr. (New York, N.Y.) from second.
Mitchell rallied to score the game-tying run in the top of the seventh inning. Elijah Morton crossed the dish as Hunter Yaworski reached on an error with two outs in the frame.
The Mariners produced two runs in the top of the 10th to seize a 4-2 lead. Juan Abreu laced a single through the right side of the infield to score Lelo Martinez. Bo Yaworski drew a bases-loaded walk to knock in Abreu.
Jon Tessier (Coronado, Calif.) tossed seven innings and registered four strikeouts. Dale Beneway (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) worked 2.2 innings of relief and posted one strikeout. Briley Seiter (Bellevue, Ky.) pitched one-third of an inning in his seventh appearance out of the bullpen.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene travels to Nichols May 1.
