Baseball Downed by Christopher Newport
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- The Eastern Nazarene College baseball team suffered an 18-5 setback to Christopher Newport Monday evening at the Cal Ripken Experience.
The Lions drop to 4-2 on the spring with the result while the Captains improve to 6-4 overall with the win.
Dylan Louviaux (Mohnton, Pa.) landed a pair of hits and scored one run in the game. Hunter Leroux-Porter (Greenland, N.H.) posted one hit, one RBI, and one run. Joshua Bombard (Rutland, Mass.) and Bobby Fulkerson (Anaheim, Calif.) each finished with one base knock and one run scored.
Christopher Newport tallied four runs in the top of the first before adding a pair of runs in the second to widen the gap to 6-0.
The Captains produced eight runs in the fifth inning to extend their advantage to 14-0.
Christopher Newport tacked on a run in the top of the sixth to push its lead to 15-0.
Eastern Nazarene got on the board with five runs in the home half of the sixth to cut the deficit to 15-5. Louviaux scurried home from third on a failed pickoff-attempt at first base. Leroux-Porter bounced a single up the middle to drive in Fulkerson. Bombard and Leroux-Porter both crossed the dish as Andres Medina (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) reached on an error. Medina came around to score as Juan Jacobo Lopez (San Diego, Calif.) got on base on a throwing error.
The Captains responded with three scores in the seventh to stretch the margin to 18-5.
Briley Seiter (Bellevue, Ky.) tossed two innings in his second start of the season and struck out a pair of batters. Tommy Merrick (Brockton, Mass.) worked four innings and fanned one batter in his second relief appearance of the season. Elvis Rosario (Lawrence, Mass.) made his pitching debut with three innings of relief while recording two strikeouts.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene will battle Bridgewater (Va.) March 3.
