Baseball Garners Four All-NECC Selections
MARSHFIELD, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College baseball team earned four All-New England Collegiate Conference nods, announced the league office Tuesday. Brent Houle (Westfield, Mass.) and Steven Pesce (Harrison, N.Y.) were both tabbed to the All-NECC second team. Josue Basilis (Bronx, N.Y.) and Briley Seiter (Bellevue, Ky.) collected All-NECC third team honors. Graduate student James Coury (Milford, Conn.) was also named to the NECC Del Malloy Sportsmanship Team.
Houle sports a 3-3 record on the mound with three complete games in eight starts this spring. He has pitched 49.1 innings on the year with 38 strikeouts. In league action, Houle worked 28.1 innings with 19 strikeouts in five starts.
Pesce appeared in all 36 games and leads the Lions with 48 base hits, 33 RBIs, and a .366 batting average. In conference play, Pesce hit .382 with 21 hits and 14 RBIs while notching a base hit in 12 of 16 league contests this spring.
In a breakout senior campaign, Basilis posted a career-high 326 batting average and .423 on-base percentage along with 31 hits, 22 runs, and 13 RBIs. He tallied 14 base knocks, nine runs, and eight RBIs in league competition while hitting .333 at the dish. Defensively, Basilis compiled a .962 fielding percentage with 23 double-plays to his credit and finished the regular season with an unblemished fielding percentage in conference games.
Seiter owns a 3-2 record on the hill this season in eight starts. He has tossed 46.1 innings and fanned 23 batters. In league play, Seiter went 2-1 in three starts with 10 strikeouts in 18.1 innings.
Eastern Nazarene posted a 19-17 overall record in the regular season with an 8-8 mark in conference play. The Lions earned the No. 4 seed in the NECC Tournament and will face fifth-seeded Southern Vermont in the first round Tuesday evening.
