Baseball Falls to Albright 8-2 Tuesday Night
FORT PIERCE, Fla.- The Eastern Nazarene College baseball team dropped an 8-2 decision to Albright Tuesday evening in the Sunshine State.
The Eastern Nazarene Lions slip to 4-5 on the season with the loss. The Albright Lions improve to 4-4 on the year with the outcome.
John Greenlee (San Marcos, Calif.) landed two base hits to lead the squad. Joe Commesso (Marshfield, Mass.) finished with one base knock and one RBI in the contest. Steven Pesce (Harrison, N.Y.) chipped in with one hit and one run scored on the night.
Eastern Nazarene grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Nick Story (Gilbert, Ariz.) drove in Josue Basilis (Bronx, N.Y.) from third base with his second sacrifice fly of the season.
Albright knotted the game at 1-1 with a run in the top of the second. Will Tokarski scootered home from third after a throwing error on a pick-off attempt at first base.
Albright tallied two runs in the third to seize a 3-1 advantage. Tanner Brescancine tripled to center to score Jimmie Gentry. Brandon Daubert followed with a base knock to left to plate Brescancine.
Albright tacked on a pair of runs in the fourth to widen the gap to 5-1. After Kyle Gantert crossed the dish on a wild pitch, Jeff Yordy lifted a sacrifice fly to left to drive in Nathan Fretz.
Eastern Nazarene cut the deficit to 5-2 with a score in the home half of the fourth inning. Commesso roped a one-out single to center to knock in Pesce from third base.
Albright added a run in the sixth to stretch the margin to 6-2. Gentry scored as Brescancine grounded out to the second baseman.
Albright chalked up two runs in the top of the ninth inning to extend its lead to 8-2. Brescancine motored home from third on a wild pitch before Daubert scored as Zach Krause reached on an error.
Briley Seiter (Bellevue, Ky.) pitched three innings and struck out two in his first collegiate start. Ragan Cole (Alamogordo, N.M.) worked three frames of relief and fanned a pair in his third outing of the season. Zach Zaino (Bourne, Mass.) struck out eight batters in two and two-third innings of relief as he made his first pitching appearance of the spring. Ryan Spina (Selden, N.Y.) logged one-third of an inning of action in his second outing of the year.
Eastern Nazarene is slated to return to the diamond March 21 for a non-conference clash against Rivier.
