Baseball Drops Non-League Clash to Lesley, 13-1
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College baseball team suffered a 13-1 setback to Lesley Wednesday afternoon at Adams Field.
The Lions sink to 15-15 on the year while the Lynx improve to 15-16 overall.
Connor Simpson (Haverhill, Mass.) picked up a pair of hits on the day and scored the home side's lone run. Sam Danis (Uxbridge, Mass.) collected one hit and one RBI. Jeremy Wagner (Oklahoma City, Okla.) finished with one base knock and a stolen base.
Lesley started the game with a three-run frame in the first inning. Mike Slaby laced a bases-loaded triple to right-centerfield to drive in Gage Reycroft, Justin Clark and Ryan Pumphret.
Eastern Nazarene got on the board in the bottom of the second to trim the margin to 3-1. Danis picked up his first RBI of the year as he poked a single into shallow left field to knock in Simpson from second.
The Lynx chalked up a pair of runs in the third to widen the gap to 5-1. Vincent Talierico rolled a single up the middle to score Daniel O'Donnell Jr. from second base. Nicholas Ferragine followed with a double down the line in right to plate Talierico from second.
The guests tacked on four runs in the fourth inning to extend their lead to 9-1 as Pumphret hammered a grand slam to left field, his second home run of the year.
Lesley reached double-digits with a run in the fifth, 10-1. Casey Blanchard tagged up and scored from third as Clark lifted a sacrifice fly to left.
The Lynx added three runs in the eighth to increase its cushion to 12 runs, 13-1. Slaby scored on a wild pitch and Reycroft hit a double to drive in a pair.
Ben Petersen (Manchester, Conn.) pitched three innings and recorded two strikeouts in his second start of the spring. Will Francis (Midlothian, Va.) tossed one inning of relief in just his fourth outing of the season. Joel DeFreitas (New Bedford, Mass.) threw three innings in his fifth appearance of the year and fanned one batter. Tyler Brown (Wilmington, Del.) hurled one inning and struck out two in his sixth game of the season. Kenny Sorensen (Quincy, Mass.) made his team-leading 10th appearance of the spring, throwing one scoreless inning.
