QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College baseball team ran its winning-streak to four games with a pair of victories over Newbury Wednesday at Adams Field.
The Lions posted wins of 2-0 and 3-1 to improve to 10-16 on the year. The Nighthawks flutter to 12-14 overall with the results.
Brandon Wynne (New Haven, Conn.) finished with two hits, one RBI and one run scored on the day. Cameron Fiorentino (Uxbridge, Mass.) notched two base knocks and crossed the plate once. Jake Koch (Dayton Nev.) landed a pair of hits while Luis Gonzalez (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico) drove in two RBIs and picked up a base hit.
The Lions edged the Nighthawks 2-0 in the opening contest.
Eastern Nazarene snagged an early 1-0 lead, plating one run in the bottom of the first inning. Wynne flared a single into right field to drive in Fiorentino from second base.
The home side doubled its advantage to 2-0 in the sixth. Eric Shea (Rossmoor, Calif.) motored home from second base when Koch singled to left and the Nighthawks' left fielder bobbled the ball.
Wynne pitched six innings in his third start of the season and struck out four batters en route to earning his first win of the year. Brent Houle (Westfield, Mass.) finished the game on the mound, hurling one inning of relief to pick up his first collegiate save.
Eastern Nazarene fended off Newbury in the nightcap to claim a 3-1 victory.
The Lions scored one run in the bottom of the second to grab a 1-0 edge. Wynne crossed the dish on a throwing error as he advanced to third on a groundout.
Eastern Nazarene pushed across two runs in the fourth to widen the margin to 3-0. With two runners in scoring position, Gonzalez laced a single back up the middle to score Shea and Justin Wagner (Oklahoma City, Okla.).
Newbury got on the board in the top of the sixth to cut the deficit to 3-1. Ian Hruniak tagged up and scored from third on a sacrifice fly to centerfield off the bat of Steven Broy.
In his second career start on the hill, senior Pat Yee (Lynnfield, Mass.) tossed 5.2 innings and fanned four batters. Brandon Wells (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.) pitched the final 1.1 innings to collect his first career save.
