Anthony Berroa Participates in NEIBA All-Star Game
QUINCY, Mass.- Anthony Berroa (Teaneck, N.J.) of the Eastern Nazarene baseball represented the Lions in the 40th annual New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association Joe Walsh All-Star Game.
The annual event was played June 1st at LaLacheur Park in Lowell, Massachusetts, home of the Lowell Spinners.
The University Division All-Stars edged the College Division All-Stars, 8-7, in a tightly-contested ballgame.
Berroa went 0-for-2 from the dish after entering the game as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The University Division All-Star team was comprised of New England's top Division I players while the College Division All-Star team was represented by the top Division II ballplayers and top Division III seniors.
Berroa was tabbed to the NEIBA All-Region second team following his senior season. He also garnered All-Commonwealth Coast Conference first team accolades as a designated hitter and second team honors as a pitcher this spring.
Berroa was one of five players from the Commonwealth Coast Conference to earn a roster spot for the game.
He paced the Lions with a .413 batting average, .509 on-base percentage and a .630 slugging percentage. Berroa ranked fourth in the league in batting average, first in slugging percentage and third in on-base percentage this season.
Berroa landed 38 base hits on the spring, including 10 doubles and five triples. He also crossed the plate 24 times, drove in 12 RBIs and swiped seven bags.
On the mound, Berroa owned a 4-2 record with a 2.40 ERA while leading Eastern Nazarene's pitching staff with 41.1 innings pitched, three complete games and 28 strikeouts.
Berroa capped off his career with the second highest career batting average in team history, hitting .379 in his three seasons with the program. He also recorded the most career triples in program history with 14.
Eastern Nazarene finished the 2014 campaign with a 13-17 overall record and a 4-12 mark in the Commonwealth Coast Conference.
