Baseball’s Berroa, Martinelli Garner All-Commonwealth Coast Conference Honors
SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- Senior Anthony Berroa (Teaneck, N.J.) and junior Rocco Martinelli (Panama City, Panama) of the Eastern Nazarene baseball team have been named to the All-Commonwealth Coast Conference teams, as announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon.
Berroa was selected to the All-CCC first team as a designated hitter and picked up second team plaudits as a pitcher while Martinelli received All-CCC honorable mention.
This marks Berroa's second career All-Commonwealth Coast Conference nod after earning honorable mention last spring.
Berroa led the Lions with a .413 batting average, a .509 on-base percentage and a .630 slugging percentage on the year. The senior collected a team-best 38 hits this spring, including 10 doubles and five triples.
He drove in 12 RBIs and scored 24 runs while also adding seven stolen bases. Berroa played in all 30 contests this season for Eastern Nazarene.
Berroa also made seven starts on the mound this spring, finishing with a 4-2 record and a 2.40 ERA. The senior right-hander paced the Lions' pitching staff with 41.1 innings pitched, three complete games and 28 strikeouts.
Martinelli saw action in 22 games this season and ranked second on the squad with a batting average of .355 to go with a .410 on-base percentage. The junior outfielder landed 27 base knocks and plated a team-high 16 RBIs on the year.
Martinelli also boasted a .973 fielding percentage on the season as he recorded 32 catches and added four assists.
Berroa finished the season ranked fourth in the conference with a .413 batting average while Martinelli's .355 ranked him 11th. Berroa also ranked first in slugging percentage, third in on-base percentage, second in triples and 11th in base hits.
Eastern Nazarene posted a 13-17 overall record in 2014 to go with a 4-12 mark in the Commonwealth Coast Conference in head coach Addison Rouse's first season.
