Baseball Edged by Lasell in Non-League Tilt, 1-0
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene baseball team dropped a narrow 1-0 decision to Lasell Friday afternoon at Bradley Field.
The Lions sink to 10-12 on the season with the loss while the Lasers improve to 17-10 overall.
Anthony Berroa (Teaneck, N.J.), Rocco Martinelli (Panama City, Panama) and Jeremy Wagner (Oklahoma City, Okla.) all picked up a base knock in the game.
Jeremy Wagner factored into nine outs defensively while Pat Yee (Lynnfield, Mass.) tracked down three fly balls, including a diving catch in the sixth inning.
The two squads battled through seven innings of scoreless baseball before Lasell broke up the deadlock in the top of the eighth.
Billy Uberti reached second base to lead off the inning and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Wes Hurty. Uberti slid home safely on a squeeze play as Matt Sammarco dropped down a bunt as the visitors produced the lone run of the contest.
Joey Napolitano (Millerton, N.Y.) hurled seven and a third innings in his first start of the spring on the mound. The rookie struck out seven batters while allowing just three hits.
Doug English and Max Pugh each made relief appearances for the hosts.
