Baseball Falls at Framingham State, 7-1

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – The Eastern Nazarene baseball team suffered a 7-1 non-conference setback at Framingham State Wednesday afternoon. The Lions drop to 10-19 on the season while the Rams improve to 11-17 overall with the outcome.
Pat Yee (Lynnfield, Mass.) scored the visitors lone run and picked up a base hit. Anthony Berroa (Teaneck, N.J.) and Rocco Martinelli (Panama City, Panama) each registered a hit and stole a base in the contest. Quentin Moore (Sheridan, Calif.), Jake Koch (Dayton, Nev.) and Jeremy Wagner (Oklahoma City, Okla.) also collected a base knock for Eastern Nazarene.
The home side got on the board first, tallying five runs in the bottom of the seventh after six innings of scoreless baseball. Anthony Iafolla drove in Jake Wardwell with a single to left to break up the 0-0 deadlock. With the bases loaded, Matthew Gerard singled through the left side of the infield to plate William Crofton and Iafolla. Kevin Driscoll picked up an RBI as he singled to left to score Mark Mainini. Gerard crossed the plate with the Rams' fifth run of the frame as he tagged up from third on a sacrifice fly to right by Matthew DiCato.
The Lions cut the deficit to 5-1 in the top of the eighth. Yee led off the inning with a single to right-center and went from first to third as Justin Wagner (Oklahoma City, Okla.) reached base on an error. Yee motored home as Berroa reached base on a fielder's choice.
Framingham State tacked on a pair of runs in the home half of the eighth to stretch its lead to 7-1. Crofton laced a two-run double to left to drive in Ivan Colon and Justin Forman.
Doug English (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) made his second start of the season on the mound and left the game in the seventh after allowing three hits and striking out two batters on the day. Reese Richmond (Villa Rica, Ga.) recorded the first out of the seventh inning and Nathan Russell (San Diego Calif.) induced a pair of fly-outs to get out of the inning. Max Pugh (San Diego, Calif.) fanned one batter as he pitched one inning.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene returns home to square off against league-leading Western New England at Adams Field in a Commonwealth Coast Conference twin bill April 19.
