QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene Student-Athlete Advisory Committee sponsored a canned food drive in the month of February and collected over 250 pounds of food.
For the second-straight year, the collected items were donated to the Quincy Crisis Center to benefit its “Food for Families” program. The Quincy Crisis Center’s food pantry is the only one in the area that regularly delivers free groceries directly to the homes of the hungry.
As part of the NCAA’s Division III Week April 8-14, Eastern Nazarene student-athletes will be volunteering throughout the week at the Quincy Crisis Center.
“We chose to donate our canned food to QCC because we know that there are a lot of people in our area that are struggling and need help,” said ENC SAAC President Sam Losano (Elverta, Calif.), a member of the Lions’ volleyball and softball programs. “Our conference decided that D3 Week would be focused towards community service, so our campus SAAC decided it would be a good idea for a different sport to go down and volunteer a few hours at Quincy Crisis Center every day. They have their hands full down there and we have free time so we thought we should take our free time and help them out. This is our way of giving back to the community that supports our school and athletics.”
The NCAA is celebrating Division III Week for the second year in a row. The goal of Division III Week to is promote all aspects of the Division III student-athlete experience: academics, athletics and extra-curricular activities. Division III is the NCAA’s largest division, containing nearly 40% of its total membership with 446 participating institutions.
