Men’s & Women’s Tennis Teams Earn ITA All-Academic Team Awards; 13 Named ITA Scholar Athletes
TEMPE, Ariz.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's and women's tennis teams both collected ITA All-Academic Awards while 13 student-athletes were tabbed ITA Scholar Athletes, announced the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Wednesday.
The Lions' men's tennis squad was honored for the third time in program history while the women's tennis team picked up its fifth all-time award.
A total of 958 male student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete and 125 Division III men's tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction while 1,058 female student-athletes were tabbed an ITA Scholar-Athlete and 175 Division III women's tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team plaudits.
The GNAC champion ENC women's tennis team was represented by Maria Busila (Malaga, Spain), Makayla Grantham (Apalachian, N.Y.), Magdalena Hubel (Berlin, Germany), Victoria Jimenez (Lynnfield, Mass.), and Emily Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany).
The Lions men's tennis program garnered eight honorees: Corey Davis (Derby, Vt.), Sven Grunenwald (Winden, Germany), Jesus Lucart (Wylie, Texas), Julius Opaschowski (Hamburg, Germany), Kyle Pierson (Redding, Calif.), Diego Rodriguez (Barquisimeto, Venezuela), Laurent Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany), and Henry Siercke (Hamburg, Germany).
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any intercollegiate tennis program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale).
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must be a varsity letter winner and possess a grade-point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year.
