ENC Athletics Weekend Wrap-Up – October 6
Eastern Nazarene's seven fall athletic teams that competed over the weekend all posted strong performances, combining for a 4-0-0 record and numerous personal-best efforts.
The Eastern Nazarene men's golf team finished eighth at the two-day Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Championships. Junior Michael Dietz (North Charleston, S.C.) earned All-MASCAC second team honors with an eighth-place finish while Brandon Brown (Oxford, Pa.) and Jimmy Keuther (Marshfield, Mass.) both fired personal-best scores in the second round.
The Lions' men's soccer team notched its program-record 10th-straight victory with a 4-0 win over Mitchell at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Eastern Nazarene improved to 10-1-0 on the year and currently sits atop the league standings with a 3-0-0 mark in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) with the result.
The Eastern Nazarene women's soccer team captured a 4-2 win over Mitchell at Veterans Memorial Stadium to earn its first conference victory of the fall. The Lions climb to 2-7-1 on the season and 1-2-0 in the NECC with the outcome.
The Lions' women's tennis team secured an 8-1 victory over Simmons at the ENC Tennis Courts to ensure a top-two finish in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference final regular-season standings. Eastern Nazarene sports a 9-2 overall record to go with a 5-1 mark in league competition. With the top-two finish locked up, the Lions earn a first-round bye and a spot in the GNAC Tournament semifinals October 19.
The Eastern Nazarene women's volleyball squad rolled to a 3-0 win over Bay Path at the Lahue Physical Education Center. With the victory, the Lions elevate to 10-4 on the year and move into sole possession of the first place in the NECC standings with a 3-0 league mark.
The Lions' men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Keene State Invitational. Eastern Nazarene cross country runners Robert Gorman (Ellington, Conn.), Ryan Polsgrove (Quincy, Mass.), Joseph Merrigan (Quincy, Mass.) , and Kiara Miller (Warren, Pa.) all registered personal-best times at the meet.
Eastern Nazarene's men's soccer and women's tennis teams return to action Wednesday with non-conference home matches. The Lions' women's volleyball team will host Gordon October 10 in inter-league play. The Eastern Nazarene women's tennis team will wrap up the regular season October 12 on the road at Suffolk in GNAC action. The Lions' men's and women's cross country team will run at the Westfield State Invitational October 12.
